DIPLOMA IN GENDER BASED VIOLENCE

Gender-based violence is  globally being recognized as  a serious problem, both because of the morbidity and mortality associated with assault and but also the long term  impact on women’s health and well being.

Gender Based Violence contributes to  chronic pain, gynecologic problems, depression, dysfunctional families, post-traumatic stress disorder and in some cases suicide. Violence against women is universal problem  that permeates all  countries and the perpetrators of the violence are often well known to their victims. It continues to be common in many countries  and  in some societies and communities  being accepted as norm.

GBV is understood to include physical and emotional sexual abuse for women, and acts such as trafficking women for sexual slavery and  exploitation.

Recent reports by the  Word Bank have highlighted gender based violence  as a priority and precedence  for public health . Development partners  and practitioners  are therefore supposed to play a key role in preventing violence against women.

This course is therefore  aimed at building the capacity to undertake programs targeted at eradicating gender-based violence and to develop a new movement  and societal standards for gender equality and equity in all spheres of life.
